MAPS101 TEACHES YOUNG LEARNERS 'DOWN ON THE FARM'
Santa Barbara, CA — [January 13, 2009] — Teachers can enhance their geography and social studies lessons with Maps101's new K-3 Interaction — Uncle Sam's Farm.Uncle Sam's Farm is an interactive map designed with the early learner in mind, to help develop and reinforce vocabulary and visual images associated with farms and rural environments.
Students are engaged through simple exercises which require an action and, if completed, results in an animation. For example, when the user is instructed to locate the farm's chickens, on completion Uncle Sam can be seen feeding the chickens in close-up, with sound effects.
In the 'Uncle Sam's Farm' beginner level, the map introduces the farm and points the student to where items are located. Level two introduces grid coordinates by having students follow directions, answer questions and learn grid references. These maps provide a fun way to demonstrate the concept of location, and serve as a starting point for economics, the importance of work, and the role of producers and consumers.
Loraine Klotz, Maps101 Sales Director, says "We have used bright colors and simple but appealing graphics in a fully interactive game, which enables otherwise difficult concepts to be communicated through engaging and memorable activities."
This new K-3 interactive map series complements social studies lesson plans. New editions of Uncle Sam's Farm to be released soon include a literacy version, with narrative for students to follow along, a relative location version, teaching students the difference between left and right, up and down, and an absolute location version which demonstrates compass direction.
