  • St. Patrick's Day March 17th
What is the story behind St. Patrick's Day? Well, very little is known about the patron saint of Ireland. It is believed he was born sometime in the late 4th century A.D., in the northern part of what is presently known as England. We also know that the very first St. Patrick's Day celebration in the United States was in Morristown, New York, authorized in 1780 by future President, George Washington. For a map of Irish ancestry in the U.S. see the Map of the Week for March 13th 2006 in the Current Events section of Maps101.
