Martin Luther King
On the third Monday of each January — Dr. Martin Luther King is honored by national holiday dedicated to him. The bill was signed by the late president Ronald Reagan

Martin Luther King was born on January 15th 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. A leader of the civil rights movement; He was a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, and the presidential medal of freedom. He is best remembered for his “I Have a Dream” speech, which he gave at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. A leader of the civil rights movement; he was assassinated on April 4th, 1968 In Memphis, Tennessee. For more info on MLK click here.


This Month in History
January 11th, 1755 — Alexander Hamilton was born in Charleston, Nevis. A founding father, and lawyer, in 1790 congress authorized Hamilton to create a maritime service to enforce customs laws; this would eventually become the United States Coast Guard. Today the main building at the academy is named after Hamilton.

January 17th 1706 — Benjamin Franklin born in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the first United States Postmaster General. He was also a scientist, writer, and legislator.

January 27th 1832 — Lewis Carroll the author of the children’s classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was born in England. He was also a mathematician, clergyman, and photographer.
